Overview

Andy L. Barrientos-Gómez recently earned his PhD in Romance Studies from Cornell University. Currently, he works as a Visiting Lecturer at the John S. Knight Institute of Writing in the Disciplines, teaching a course titled "The Divided Cities: Rio de Janeiro and Mexico City." His dissertation explores and reconceptualizes instances of violence in sexual encounters and labor excesses in Brazilian and Mexican literature and visual media. For his next project, he plans to explore the representation of cults and cult leaders in Latin American cultural production.

 

His latest publication, "Desechos del capitalismo: peonaje, paisaje y extractivismo en Sete prisoneiros” will soon be published in the special issue, Redescubriendo el paisaje en la literatura y el cine del siglo XXI: identidades, espacios y reconfiguraciones in Cuadernos del CILHA. He also has a forthcoming chapter in the book Cinematic Landscape and Emerging Identities in Latin American Film published by Lexington Books.
