Overview
José Rafael Ponciano (he/him) is a Ph.D. student in Romance Studies at Cornell University. His interests lean toward tracing queerness and its representations into modern times through cultural production in Central America. His doctoral research will aim to address the convergences thereof (literary and otherwise) as they relate to identity, belonging, citizenship, and the ethnographies of the communities involved.
Rafael earned his B.A. in Spanish and Latin American Studies from the University of Waterloo (Canada), with minors in German, Cultural Identities, and Music. More recently, he earned his M.A. in Hispanic Literatures and Cultures from the University of Toronto (Canada), where he focused on the realization of masculinities in modern and contemporary Latin American literature.
