Julia Karczewski is currently a PhD Candidate in the French section of the Romance Studies Department at Cornell University. She received her B.A. from the University of California, Irvine and an M.A. from Middlebury College. Her dissertation, tentatively entitled “In the Shadow of Narcissus: Lyric Poetry and the Origins of Feminist Subjectivity in Sixteenth Century France,” focuses on the poetry of Louise Labé, Pernette du Guillet, and the Dames des Roches. More broadly, Julia is interested in questions of female authorship, feminist theory, and gender and sexuality studies.
