Overview
Juliana Torres Forero is a Ph.D. candidate in Spanish with graduate minors in Feminist, Gender, & Sexuality and LGBTQ Studies. Her research delves into the poetics of monstrosity in the literary work of 20th-century women writers and poets from the Andean Region and the Southern Cone. She examines the aesthetic and political potentialities of the monstrous as a multilayer rhetorical device, dialoguing with literary history, ecocriticism, and feminist, queer, and monster theories. She focused on how these writings responded to cis-heteropatriarchal and androcentric narratives counteracting diverse forms of gender and eco-violence. Juliana is also interested in the performativity of reading and writing, feminist and anti-racist teaching methodologies, the interconnections between contemporary Latin American literature and other artistic media, and embodied research practices. She holds a BA in Literary Studies from Universidad de los Andes, Colombia, and an MFA in Creative Writing from New York University
