Overview
Laura Tain Gutierrez joined the Department of Romance Studies in Fall 2025. Prior to that, she taught at institutions including the University of Chicago, the University of Illinois at Chicago, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Texas Tech University, and the University of Arkansas. Her teaching approach emphasizes the use of authentic materials such as popular songs to engage students and enhance language learning. Her research interests include assessment design, vocabulary instruction, and second language acquisition.
Tain Gutierrez holds an M.A. in Spanish Pedagogy with a focus on second language instruction from the Universidad Internacional de La Rioja, and a BA in Psychology from the University of Sevilla, Spain. Her academic background is also supported by a Spanish L2 Teacher Training graduate certificate from the Instituto Cervantes.
