Overview
"Marina Peñalosa Montero joined the Romance Studies Department in Fall 2024 after completing her Ph.D. in Romance Languages at the University of Oregon. Her dissertation is titled An Intellectual Field in Tension. The Other Borges, and it examines the cultural sociability of Argentina during the twentieth century through the analysis of Jorge Luis Borges’ lectures and talks. Her research focus on Latin American studies, the Souther Cone and the role of writers as public intellectuals.
Marina completed her M.A. in Comparative Literature and a B.A in Spanish Philology, both at the Universidad de Murcia, Spain.
Since 2017 she has been teaching all levels of Spanish at the University of Oregon including first year elementary and intermediate Spanish, and upper level courses in Latin American and Spanish cultures. She also coordinated and developed the web format of the intermediate level. Her courses benefit from real-life materials, student experiences, and the use of technology to promote students participation."
