Overview
Matvey Agranovskiy is a Ph.D. student in Romance Studies (French). He holds a bachelor’s degree with highest honors in Comparative Literature and Philosophy from Brandeis University. His senior thesis, Dialectical Annihilation in War and Death: G. W. F. Hegel’s Absolute Negation in the 1930s–40s Writings of Alexandre Kojève and Georges Bataille, drew on the unpublished Russian manuscripts of Alexandre Kojève, preserved at the archives of the Bibliothèque nationale de France.
His research lies at the intersection of European modern and contemporary philosophy, literature, and intellectual history. More broadly, his academic interests include the fine arts, cinema studies, and the relationship between technology and thought.
His work has appeared in Triple Ampersand Journal. Beyond his academic research, he has worked on a variety of projects in New York City, including an assistantship with artist Marc Hundley and contributions to the research for the biopic about Bill T. Jones, working with editor and filmmaker Alla Kovgan.
